Hearts and Minds

This gateway integrates sculpture, solar powered light, poetry and signage. Inspired by the Orca School sustainability and garden focus, the glass heart is shaped from an eggplant and the glass brain is created from a cauliflower casting. The lighting is powered by solar panels, which provide a curriculum for students. Seattle City Light and Seattle School District co-sponsored a solar unit that feeds the electrical grid to power the lights. The poem on the base was written during collaboration between 3rd grade students, Poet in Residence Carolyn Hall, and Coss.
